Chère lectrice, cher lecteur, des faits ahurissants et fondamentaux vont t 1’être exposés, qui concernent le mécanisme démocratique. Nous tâcherons d’adoucir leur radicalité par un ton badin. Celui-ci ne saurait masquer la rigueur de la mathématique sous-jacente, qui te sera épargnée. Nous voudrions simplement te montrer ce que les mathématiciens savent depuis quelques décennies, et que les politiciens et analystes politiques s’entêtent à ne pas dire, voire ne pas reconnaître. Cet opuscule a été conçu pour l’essentiel avant la longue crise des gilets jaunes. Celle-ci, qui exprime un immense besoin de rénovation démocratique, et le débat national proposé en réponse par le président de la République, donnent au problème que nous soulevons et à la solution que nous préconisons une actualité brûlante.
